Hi all, thanks again for your efforts in making sure we got to our hearing. Good news and bad news.
The good news is that a judge found all of our causes of action had merit, which means the Calgary Expo and The Mary Sue’s application for summary dismissal was denied.
Unfortunately due to the extended conversation over semantics and technicalities by the time the summary judgement was declined, we had half a day left for trial.
The judge who presided over the summary judgement was the first judge to take an in depth look at the case and due to the complexity and scope he informed us that at least two and more likely three days would be needed.
We were granted November 28th-30th, 2017 for our official trial dates. We look forward to our next day in court.
The date for our Trial against the Mary Sue and the Calgary Expo is January 12th, 2017.
If you don’t know the background, I–Alison Tieman–was kicked out of the Calgary Expo for supporting Gamergate and men’s rights. Both the Mary Sue and the Calgary Expo have alleged that I engaged in harassment and that I infiltrated the convention under an assumed name with the intent of engaging in harrassment. We have overwhelming evidence that both of these allegations are false and are suing the Calgary Expo for Injurious Falsehood and Breach of Contract and the Mary Sue for Injurious Falsehood and Incitement to Breach of Contract.
These are the relevant court documents, all are publicly available.
This is the only court case in which Gamergate is named and being used as an excuse to justify evicting a female comics artist from a convention.
It’s been a long and difficult road getting this trial date and keeping it. The Calgary Expo has obscured its legal name, made spurious allegations that we breached court orders and dumped a summary judgement on us right in the middle of our preparations for trial.
This has left us little time to get our witnesses together and arrange travel for everyone involved.
We have six people on our witness list, we would also like to bring up the team to help fill the courtroom plus we have to cover the travel costs for our legal agent, Harry. This is a total of 12 people.
Accommodations(12 people): 3000$
Lost wages: 1000$
Per Diem: 2400$
Additional legal fees: 1000$
If you can throw a shekel in the hat to help us get to Calgary we would be much obliged. If you don’t have a shekel to spare, here are other ways to help:
- Get the word out. Share this everywhere, talk to people about it, put it up on facebook, twitter, reddit, everywhere.
- If you’re in Calgary or can get to Calgary, attend the Trial. Make sure the Judge knows that this court case is of interest to the public and that people are watching. Empty courtrooms are where injustices happen. The trial will take place January 12-13th, 2016 in Room # 1508. The address is 601 5th ST SW, Calgary.
- Contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org for other possible volunteer jobs.
- Do your own investigation. Don’t just take our word for it. And if you’re interested in helping us out with more info about the convention, go ahead and dig. Dig!
Help us infiltrate the Alberta Provincial court for great justice!
**Any additional funds that don’t go to travel expenses will go to general HBB operations. If we are awarded travel costs for witnesses we’ll apply the funds to give the top ten to twenty five donors gifts depending on the amount of refund.
